Reading Recap

It's a new year now and I was recently reminded that, in the past, at the start of every year, I used to list all the books I had read in the previous year. It was a time when I placed a higher premium on reading in part because I felt like fewer people around me were reading. The past few years, however, have been light on the literature, while everyone else seems to belong to multiple book clubs. But as the end of 2010 ramped up in the reading department, I have again decided to recap all of the books I read last year. Here goes:

Lost Symbol - Dan Brown
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - Stieg Larson
Let The Great World Spin - Colum McCann
The Girl Who Played With Fire - Stieg Larson
The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest - Stieg Larson
Making Friends With Black People - Nick Adams
I Was Told There'd Be Cake - Sloane Crosley
Kitchen Confidential - Anthony Bourdain
The Lacuna - Barbara King Solver
A Cook's Tour - Anthony Bourdain
Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire - Suzanne Collins

I also read two halves of books in the form of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (re-read pre moving watching), and a Fine Balance, but in fairness, I'm not counting them as one whole book because I will likely read them in their entirety this year... maybe.

It's not exactly a high-brow list, but given that I spent the first five months planning a wedding--and thus reading a crap ton of wedding magazines--and the whole year before that reading next to nothing, it's not a terrible accomplishment. That said, I aim to do better this year. With the year only a few days old and me half way through my second book, I'm aiming for at least 25 books this year. I'd also like to take on some of the classics that somehow managed to escape both my high school and college education. I've got a few other things lined up, but I'm always open to a good recommendation. Now, to get back to The Great Gatsby...
